After two weeks into my new life as a New Yorker, I have concluded that you can’t wake up one day as Carrie Bradshaw. All you Sex and the City freaks like me out there know that the star of the show, Carrie and her friends party at the best clubs, shop at the best stores and can hail a cab in two seconds. Don’t get me wrong the city is fabulous and I’m truly loving it here. However, a few less than comical incidents such as trying to hail a cab at 4 pm (impossible), getting rejected at an upscale club with my girlfriends and accidently almost clearing my bank account with the purchase of a perfume, has given me the realization that in order to channel my inner Carrie its going to take some time.
I have been able to poke around in a few stores, such as Betsey Johnson (a girl needs a purse right?) and was introduced to the sample sale.
Volunteering at the up and coming designer Kimberly Ovitz sample sale was one hundred percent worth ten hours a day three days in a row on my feet. My knees swelled and my feet ached for days but I was rewarded with several free items from Kimberly and I’m loving them. If your not familiar with Kimberly Ovitz, check out her website. She uses the softest materials and makes unique pieces with her asymetrical hemlines.

I may not be the most city savvy chick in NYC just yet, but its a work in progress : )
I’ll be blogging for Internqueen.com and sharing my post graduate experiences for the next few months. Check out my first post, a reflection on graduation and moving on…..let me know what you think!! Click Here to read
After two and a half months of stressing over graduation, finals and a capstone project I have finally graduated and am currently packing for my move to New York City. I admit, I fell off the blogging wagon in a big way, but all this packing and preparation for my move to the Big Apple has inspired me start up again. Also, a little shopping didn’t hurt either hehe. I can’t wait to share my new “business casual” big kid outfits with everyone ( I feel so professional ) but I’ll have to save that for their return from the dry cleaner lol. In the mean time I picked up this crazy rattlesnake skin, flower ring today at a local Charleston, WV boutique called Cornucopia. Cornupcopia has been around for years and is always a great place to check out for gifts, scarves, jewelry and such. I even worked there for a few months during my high school days. Today on a hunt for the perfect bday gift for my mother I snagged this unique ring for only $ 9. I’m oh so excited to sport it with my new little Khakis blazers and freshly manicured gold nails. NYC here I come! Stay tuned for my summer adventures in the city.

So I’ve dropped the ball on bloggin lately, I know. But trust me, it’s been for a good reason. During my final semester of college I’ve been involved in my public relations capstone course, which involves planning and implementing a PR campaign for an Irish mental-health organization in Ireland. Not only have I learned A LOT about PR, our class traveled to Ireland for spring break. Just getting back yesterday, I have a million things to say about Ireland and can’t believe how quick the week went by. I’m absolutely in love with that country and will be planning a return trip as soon as possible.
And let me just say: the Irish have AWESOME style! Obviously, Europeans are known for being quite stylish but I wasn’t expecting to find such awesome boutiques. I dare say my favorite was a chain store in Ireland called “River Island.” Get it? because Ireland is an island with rivers?? Anyways, I spent wayyyy too many euros there and actually went there three days in a row. They had really awesome stockings and fantastic accessories.
More impressive, however, than their clothing choices was the genuinely gorgeous landscapes of Ireland. The most breathtaking views I’ve ever experienced were in the town of Braye, an Irish sea-town. Also, the country-side and rivers of Dublin were just indescribable and trust me the photos don’t do it justice.
If you blink you might miss it, so if you find yourself on Soho keep your eyes pealed because you don’t want to miss Blake Scotland, formerly the Ferality Show Boutique. Set in a charming neighborhood in Soho, the recently rebranded boutique is a must-see if your visiting New York for a shopping trip. Reasonably priced and with a great sales-rack, Blake Scotland is tiny but full of a wide-array of trendy urban apparel and carries men’s clothing as well. The beautiful chandalier and attractive jewelry displays make for a great atmosphere and Blake Scotland herself is extremely welcoming. Also, I just have to add that I thought the fish tank was an extremely adorable touch. The PR firm I intern for was hosting an event at the store when I met Blake and her warm presence and great attitude definitely contributed to the party’s success. I can’t wait to move to New York City this summer and make shopping at Blake Scotland a frequent ritual. BTW Blake Scotland is located on 62 Clinton Street in Soho.
Thanks Her Campus WVU for helping me share my experiences in NYC last weekend with WVU students. Thanks for reading everyone!!! : )
When I first learned the fashion public relations firm I intern for was producing a fashion presentation during New York Fashion Week, I was a nervous wreck. Should I ask them if I can come help? Should I not say anything and wait for them to ask? I finally worked up the courage to ask, and of course they said they’d be thrilled to get all the help they could get. A plane ticket, hotel reservation and a crash diet later, I flew to New York City to get my first taste of New York Fashion Week. If you’re like me, you would probably commit murder to make it in the fashion industry. Therefore, here are three things I learned you should definitely bring to New York Fashion Week!
